         Network Engineer

         Commensurate upon certification & experience

The Network Engineer is responsible for implementing the designs and Scope of Work generated by Sales and Engineering.  The Network Engineer installs, configures, and troubleshoots the equipment to meet the goals of the customer (both internal and external customers).  The Network Engineer also resolves non-project based customer issues such as repairs, reconfigurations, or training. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (minimum requirements)

 

Education, credentials, licenses:

 

Bachelors Degree in computer-related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, valid driver’s license, vehicle in good repair, industry recognized certifications in networking.  MCSE and CCNP required.

Specialized knowledge:

 

Knowledge of routers, switches and hubs.  Extensive knowledge of OSI, network protocols (including TCP/IP and IPX), network technologies and network design:  CCNP and/or ESE.  Telecommunication knowledge is preferred.  Telephone key and PBX system knowledge.

Kind and length of experience:

 

1 to 3 years in an increasingly complex networking environment.  Extensive hands-on experience with routers, switches, and servers.

POSITION REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·         Networking, telecommunications, server training.  Responsible for learning technologies and completing certifications as assigned. 

·         Maintain certification currencies

·         Install network equipment per network design and Scope of Work, according to quality and safety levels set by Production Manager

·         Troubleshoot and repair network and server issues

·         Manage and direct small project-based teams of technicians

·         Provide training for customers based on products and services defined in Scope of Work

·         Provide training and support for Production department for network-related subjects

·         Provide technical support and design assistance to the Engineering department

·         Evaluate new products for use in customer projects

·         Develop/complete documentation, including customer work summaries, procedures, map templates, and inventory templates to support existing and future projects. Maintain up-to-date company documentation

·         Support ABLE internal network-related needs as required

·         Advise Production Manager on technical issues related to projects and personnel

·         Assist all other technicians with their responsibilities whenever possible

·         Occasional defined on-call responsibilities

·         Some overnight travel required. Occasionally short notice

·         Maintain valid Arizona driver’s license and be insurable by company’s carrier

·         Other duties as assigned by Production Manager

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

 

Working conditions vary based on customer site.  Mostly indoor work. Some outdoor work required. Heavy lifting required during installations.  Extensive automobile travel (approximately 2 or more days a week) may be required.  Hours vary based on customer requirements.

The Network Engineer requires very good cognitive abilities, including the ability to learn quickly, adapt technologies to different situations, and visualize network-related issues.  The Network Engineer also requires good communication skills for customer service issues, including training in a classroom environment.
